Scholarships:

  • Barbara Luskanen Gill Scholarship

  • Margaret & Carlo Pola Family Scholarship

In 2026 FOSTA offered two $1,500 scholarships to graduating Sandwich High School seniors!

We proudly continued our traditional scholarship in memory of former archivist Barbara Luskanen Gill, and for 2026--and the next two years--we are honored to partner with the Pola family to bring you the Margaret and Carlo Pola Family Scholarship. See below for more information.

Both scholarships were offered to full-time students continuing their education at a fully accredited institution.

Congratulations to Laren Frazel, recipient of the Barbara Luskanen Gill Scholaarship, and Megan Jakubicka, recipient of the Carlo and Margaret Pola Family Scholarship. Please go here to read their essays, "What Sandwich Has Meant to Me."

Margaret and Carlo Pola Family Scholarship

Carlo Pola, born and raised in Sandwich, met his future wife, Margaret (Peggy) while both were serving in Washington D.C. during World War II. Following the war they returned to Sandwich and raised nine children, all of whom graduated from the Sandwich school system.

Carlo and Peggy believed that education comes in many forms and is enhanced by varied and shared experiences. One way they ensured a well-rounded life was to support the community they both loved. Carlo was a town selectman, served on the board of Elder Services, and was a commander of VFW Post 188. Peggy was chairman of the United Way and a long-time member of the school committee. Community service and a commitment to life-long learning was a way of life for them.

Their family is honored to continue Carlo and Peggy's legacy by offering this scholarship in partnership with FOSTA.

Recipient:

2026 - Lauren Frazel
